About Teaching Today
Teaching Today is a publication that addresses current national,
state and local developments in education, as well as highlights
from programs and curriculum of Wisconsin and Minnesota schools.
Teaching Today is published by a private company as a resource and
communication link for education professionals throughout
Wisconsins and Minnesota's schools. In its initial run in March 1997, 5,000 copies
of the 12-page publication were printed and distributed to the Eau
Claire Area School District. Now a 24-page publication, The School
News is distributed monthly from September to May to over 50,000
educators and administrators in 149 school districts across
Wisconsin and Minnesota. The publications growth over the years is in direct
correlation with the important role education plays in our
communities.

History
Teaching Today has experienced many changes since its inception in
March 1997. Over the years, the look and the editorial focus have
been updated; however, the mission has remained the same. The
timeline below highlights the progress made by Teaching Today
through the years.
1997
March
The first issue of Teaching Today is published. About 5,000 copies
of this 12-page newspaper were put together in publisher, Renee
Feights, basement. These early issues were distributed exclusively
to Eau Claire area teachers, administrators and parents.
1998
Now a 16-page newspaper, Teaching Today begins distributing to
Chippewa and Dunn County education professionals and parents, in
addition to the existing distribution to Eau Claire residents.
10,000 copies are printed each month over the next year.
1999
Thanks to the cooperation of the staff of CESA 10, Teaching Today
experiences another expansion, broadening the communication link
between Wisconsin schools.
2000
Teaching Today becomes a 20-page newspaper. Once again,
distribution grows, this time adding the schools in CESA 11.
2001
January
The editorial focus of Teaching Today begins changing this year as
distribution becomes exclusive to Wisconsin educators and
administrators, eliminating content specifically directed at
parents. With continued growth in distribution, Teaching Today
reaches 12,500 education professionals in 17 counties across the
state.
September
The paper moves another step beyond the regional image developed in
the early years, and begins preparation for statewide distribution.
15,000 papers are printed each month through December.
2002
Teaching Today successfully branches out into other areas of the
state bringing print totals to 40,000. There are many new school
districts that are located in each of the regions throughout the
state. Education professionals from 149 districts in over 50
counties are receiving Teaching Today each month of the school
year. Editorial and advertising content develops a statewide appeal
and breaks free of the regional image once attached to the paper.
The distribution isnt the only thing growing this year the paper
expands from 20-24 pages.
2003
Distribution of Teaching Today grows from 40,000 to over 50,000
copies. The staff works to include shorter articles that are more
accessible to Wisconsins busy educators.
2004
In addition to statewide advertising, Teaching Today introduces
regional advertising. We create four different formats of the paper
to be distributed to each of the different regions. Four of the 24
pages feature strictly regional material. Our webmaster creates a
fresh look for our website and we work to promote the website as a
venue for displaying educators published work.
